My DC trip

Here's a full recap of my trip.

Some thoughts to add to the pictures:
Day one, March 31st, 2009: I arrived at the airport at 4 am, for a 6am flight. We transferred in Houston, and got to Philly at about 4:30pm. We then went to dinner at this weird place that poured sprite into my water. After dinner, we ran up the art museum stairs like Rocky Balbola did, and went on this light tour of the city. The light tour had a soundtrack with it, and it had a very loud ending. As my history teacher said the next morning “well, you knew it was over.”
Day 2, April 1st, 2009: We did some touring of the historic part of hilly. I saw Independence Hall, Congress Hall, the Liberty Bell, and Franklin Court. There were a lot of people walking around the area dressed like Ben Franklin. It’s a bit odd seeing Ben Franklin ordering a hamburger at a food court.
Next we went to an aquarium in New Jersey. Philly is amazingly close to New Jersey, so it took 15 minutes to get to the aquarium. Then, we drove to Gettysburg. It was supposed to be an hour and a half to 2 hour drive, but it took almost four hours. We had to change the time of the movie we were seeing, and we just barely made our dinner reservations.
Day 3, April 2nd, 2009: On this morning, I was woken up at 6am. I went to the bathroom, and at 6:03am I hit my foot with the door while opening the door. I was watching where I was going, and I did have enough clearance, but the door just grew. Seriously, it grew.
At first I had hoped that I had just stubbed it. But then it was oozing out blood, and it kept on hurting. I went to two of the sites on the battlefield tour, but then my foot was hurting too much to keep on going. After we drove to DC, the school nurse, who was on the other bus, took a look at my foot. My foot was lots of pretty colours and swollen. I stayed in the visitors centre at Arlington National Cemetery with my history teacher (whom I had to listen to talking for two hours) and a couple of girls who were sick with the stomach bug that was going around (I managed to miss the stomach bug).
We had dinner that night at a “Fashion Centre” (aka mall). I ate with the teachers, and it was hilarious watching them interact with each other. At one point, they all took turns getting these GIANT milkshakes that all had several inches of whip cream. And then my science teacher, who is absolutely addicted to caffeine, got a venti latte when she finished her milkshake. While the teachers were doing that, I just drank my tall soy hot chocolate.
Day 4, April 3rd, 2009: My foot began to alternate between numbness and pain. I preferred pain.
We went to FDR memorial, Jefferson Memorial and Vietnam Memorial; because it was morning and the inside stuff was closed. It was POURING and we were drenched on. My socks were so soaked, I had to buy new ones at lunch, and I had to wring out water from my jeans.
I saw Lincoln’s Bible at the Library of Congress. It was the same one that Obama used for the inauguration. It was quite cool to see.
We went to a play at Ford’s Theatre last night. For those of you who can’t remember, that’s where Abraham Lincoln was shot. They still have the balcony he sat in decorated.
Day 5, April 4th, 2009: My foot continued to hurt. It started to shake at some points during the day.
One of the first stops was a giant souvenir emporium. I got a bunch of stuff for really cheap. 5 t-shirts for 15 dollars, a sweatshirt for $18, and a poster for $2!
We had our tour of the Capitol. We were supposed to see the House of Reps gallery, but it was closed because there was a suspicious package found that day, so we just did the Rotunda tour. We couldn’t even go out that way- we had to go in a tunnel to the Library of Congress.
I practically screamed when I was told that we had time to go to the Newseum. It wasn’t on the itinerary, and ever since CNN broadcasted from the roof of it during the inauguration, I had really wanted to go there.
We could not go to the National Archives because the line was too long.
Day 6, April 5th, 2009: We went to Palm Sunday services at Christ Church, Alexandria, where George Washington Robert E. Lee went. The service was optional, so some people went on a walking tour of Alexandria. It was quite different than what I was used to. There is quite a difference between a United Methodist service, which I go to every week, and an Episcopalian service, which is what Christ Church had.
Then, we went to Mount Vernon (George Washington’s House). We had to stand in line for over an hour, which was murder on my foot. Then, we went to lunch, I realized we were not going to have much time for dinner at the airport, so I ate a big lunch at the buffet we were at.
And, I was correct. We had no time to eat at the airport, or during our transfer. They started boarding the plane really early, so we had no time to eat or anything. All we got on the first flight was a sandwich that was a whole two inches, and a bag of chips. The second flight gave us pretzels, and then extra pretzels, when the flight attendants heard that we hadn’t had dinner.
And, now I'm home.
